Anul trecut, de fapt anul acesta, dar anul trecut scolar, pe cand eram studenta la Universitatea din Barcelona, am auzit pentru prima de Caryl Churchill, a wonderful playwright, la un curs de teatru englezesc. Cert este ca aceasta scriitoare a revolutionat lumea teatrului de pana atunci. Caryl Churchill se naste in 1938 si e faimoasa pentru piesele sale feministe si pentru tehnicile sale non-realiste. E un fel de descedenta a binecunoscutului Samuel Beckett si Harold Pinter. Piesele sale precum: Seven Jewish Children, Drunk Enough to Say I Love You?, Far Away, The Skriker, Cloud Nine, sau Top Girls sunt foarte cunoscute si jucate atat pe scenele englezesti cat si in strainatate.
Piesa pe care am studiat’o noi la scoala a fost celebra Top Girls care a revolutionat si a cutremurat cu adevarat scena englezeasca. Top Girls e o piesa ce imbina probleme societatii englezesti in timpul conducerii lui Margaret Thatcher cu efecte asupra chestiunii feministe.
The play is set in Britain and implicitly condemns the increasing incidence of Thatcherite values in society, especially their effect on Feminism. Churchill has stated that the play was inspired by her conversations with American feminists: it comments on the contrast between American feminism, which celebrates individualistic women who acquire power and wealth, and British socialist feminism, which involves collective group gain. In addition, there is also a commentary on Margaret Thatcher, the then Prime Minister, who also celebrated individualism and believed in Neoliberalism (Thatcherism). Marlene the tough career woman is portrayed as soulless, exploiting other women and suppressing her own caring instincts in the cause of success. The play argues against the style of feminism that simply turns women into new patriarchs and argues for a more socialist feminism that is about caring for the weak and downtrodden. Cum spuneam, Top Girls a fost jucata si in diferite tari, dar si continente. Atunci cand invatam pentru examen, am cautat mai multe informatii despre piesa, dar mai mult m-a interesat sa vad o reprezentatie. Am gasit un filmulet, postat pe You Tube, unde americanii explica pe intelesul tuturor ¨chestiunea piesei¨, dar vorbesc si despre un spectacol realizat in America, in Baltmore Theater http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhK6PT0nK2k
Piesa e amuzanta, este numai si numai cu si despre femei, iar stilul englezesc face deliciul lecturii.
